The wheels of freedom

I had a nightmare last night where I bought a Lincoln Navigator. No, seriously, it woke me up ~5:00 AM. I needed wheels so I could go pick up my friend Jason. Fortunately I was in the parking lot of the grocery store I frequented when I was a kid and there was a car dealership. I signed some paper a friendly guy with a nice smile had handed me. I stepped into my new wheels, admiring the clean interior. Inhaling the smell of new car, the hairs on my arm stood up with a thrill. All I had to do was turn the ignition and I was off. It was amazing having the power to drive wherever I wanted. At the slightest provocation of a small foot pedal I could accelerate to any speed my heart desired! Amazing! I couldn't wait to see the look on Kelsey's face as I drove up. She would be so impressed. I could drive us to any destination we wanted. The fun was really just beginning. Soon we would be taking the Kayaks to the river and camping on the beach. Me and her, sitting on our shiny, air conditioned thrones, basking in our new freedom. On a whim I could travel to any destination we wanted. This line of thinking was briefly interrupted as I had to make a u-turn. As I waited for traffic to clear I began thinking about how much money I'd just spent. I began remember how much I disliked driving when I had a car. The lane still wasn't clear. I wondered how long the smile on Kelsey's face would last before the novelty wore off and our responsibilities kept us from reaching our little vacations. The bills would start to pile up. Much worse, the bills would not stop for several years. I'd thrown myself into $40,000 of debt for a few weeks of fleeting happiness. Dammit I hate fucking stop lights! So much disdain I have for those stupid little box of light bulbs. Don't get me started on parking. The stress from that alone knots my stomach. Why hasn't this damn lane opened yet? I need to get Jason. Insurance! Holy crap how much would my car insurance be? Maintenance! Liability! Oh my god what had I done! Years of being chained to unavoidable responsibility for so little return! I woke up.

Adventure
Went adventuring with a professional inflatable today.

Found a dead snake in the road - http://www.flickr.com/photos/moreturmeric/2546186563/

Found some mulberries too - http://www.flickr.com/photos/moreturmeric/2547009404/in/photostream/

- So I needed to get out of the house today. My plan: to read at the park. While I was at it I thought I'd photograph a desk punching clown. As I was getting some water before the trip, I remembered I had left over ice cream from last week. I quickly incorporated ice cream into the plan. While I was at the park I met a pretty cool dude. I lied to him. Well, I should back up. So before he turned to corner and I met him, I had set the inflatable punching clown on the edge of the bridge. Took a photo of it then watched as a gust of wind knocked it into the muck below. I am not one to leave friends behind so I was pondering the best way to rescue my fallen comrade. I was standing on the bench taking this photo when a ~30 year old dude walks over and sits on the bench across from mine. He says, "Hey," and looks at me as though he wanted answers. Being slow and of simple mind I panicked at the thought of trying to explain why I was standing on a bench taking a photo of an inflatable punching clown while an open container of ice cream was melting next to me, spoon propped against it with the aid of my pocket knife.
"Oh man! I was just taking a picture for class when I dropped that thing," I lied. After more inquiries I found myself lying about being an art student at Florida State University. He began expressing his bitterness about attending Godby High School when Leon High was far superior. After he had finished his vent, I decided it would be a good time to express my bitterness about how society need to better respect our schools and bring them to the quality of other industrialized nations. After we did a little more venting of long-pent up disappointments in our educational system we said our goodbyes.

- Yesterday was groovy. Watched Kung Fu Hustle with Chris then we joined Rachel for pizza. Afterwards we watched Science of Sleep. Chris wanted to hang out with a girl so Rachel and I went to 80's night at The Beta Bar. I had a good time though I didn't dance very much. I spent the majority of time on the deck chilling & talking to folks. I met some dude who had never met Rachel but somehow knew some very specific things about her life. Not negative things by any means. Just very specific and not things you'd ever think a stranger would know even if they'd seen you around town frequently. Despite the awkward air, he was very polite. I also met someone who is going to be a bondage model in Gainesville. I was disapointed by the lack of writing on the bathroom walls. Tallahassee needs more culture.

- Last night's Lo Mein that I didn't eat made an amazing breakfast.

- Had BBQ with the folks. So delicious. Kebabs, corn, avocados, beet brats and peaches on the grill. So good! I'd never had peaches on the grill. Like a peach cobbler, only fresh. So delicious! It was also super cool chillin' with the dogs. I miss them sometimes.

- My back looks like that of a severely deformed tomato-red lizard who's shedding its skin. If only I had the extensible tongue of one.

- Welcome to the pyramid scheme of happiness. Sit back, relax and let me pour you some gin. At the very top is a dude that is in control. He says a bunch of people are going to hold us up. He even says that one day, if we keep on holding him up, we could be as high as him and higher!

Jason in Tallahassee

The Day -

  • My sun burn has started peeling big time. So gross! http://www.flickr.com/photos/moreturmeric/2537448463/

  • Saw Jason today. Rocked out with Jordan, Victoria and Rachel. Jordan has a sweet setup with a midi tap pad array thing. So cool. Rachel brought some booze and Victoria made some super awesome noodles with squash and onions and carrots, us guys were moochers.

  • Went to Wal-Mart today. That place is so weird. Got some free advice there. Jordan shared with us the wonderful world of robot babies. Really quite creepy in my opinion.

  • My cell phone battery got a loose wire today. I tried to solder it back together but couldn't get the stuff to stick to one of the connections (no flux?) I left a solder glob on the battery terminal and the wire is pressed into the blob when I close the battery back up. It hasn't turned off yet, I wonder how long that'll last. I've had my phone for seven or eight years. I really don't want a new one. They're all so complex and fragile.

Notes to self -

  • Learn musical scales.
  • Get old mice at good will. One optical with scroll wheel, one ball.
  • Sifl gas mask.
  • (p + q)² = p² + 2pq + q² = 1 ::: google
  • Nasa scientists who fling robots 442 million miles to other planets are overcompensating for their complete lack of basketball skills.
  • Takako Minekawa - Phonoballoon Song ::: If you have forgotten about this song, listen to it.
  • I fed the corporate dogs my wallet. They've got an open wound going. My eyes are dazzled as they lap up the pools of green blood.

Makes me smile:

Cake:
ingredients:
- two slices of bread
- sufficient peanut butter to cover one side of each bread slice
- 2 to 3.5 oz per 16 sq. inches of bread slices - maple syrup
- garnish or garnishes of your choice in the amount of your choosing

tools required:
- plate (with the shortest diameter at least as wide as the maximum distance across your largest slice of bread.)
- knife and/or spoon and/or fork
- toaster and/or toaster oven and/or oven and/or fire*
- facial hair

Step 1:
Place the two slices of bread close to either or all heating elements you have chosen to utilize. Be sure to keep the slices apart from each other. Stacking the slices will not be as efficient or rewarding. Leave the slices near the heating elements until they begin to brown. If the slices are not being heated evenly it would be beneficial to rotate and/or flip the slices at regular intervals. Remove the slices from the heat when they appear light brown.

Step 2:
Get your plate and apply a few lines of maple syrup to its top surface. Put one of the slices on this and apply peanut butter liberally. Once the slice is covered apply 40-45% of the remaining maple syrup. With your eating utensil(s) mix the syrup with the peanut butter as the syrup is being poured. Once the peanut butter/maple syrup is somewhat homogeneous, place the second slice on top and repeat the peanut butter/maple syrup application on top. Pour the remaining maple syrup on top after mixing. Once this is done, lick the utensil clean and in the process of doing so, get syrup and peanut butter stuck in your facial hair.

Step 3 (optional):
Apply the garnish(es) of your choice in whatever manner seems most suitable.

Serve while still warm!

*The use of fire has yet to be tested with this recipe and though theoretically possible it could prove to be difficult. Please proceed with a cautious vigilance.

Tree Experiment Part One

For a while, I have wanted to make a decal to put on a wall in the bedroom. I finally decided on a tree because I had a lot of wood grain contact paper left over from a project. Here are the photos. . . I love it, and now I want to make a forest of the room.

I wish I had some Uncle Matt's Orange Juice right now. I had some Odwalla, but it's not anywhere near the awesomeness that is Uncle Matt's.
